Ghanaian musician and newly elected Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame A Plus, has made it clear that his primary focus in Parliament will be serving his constituents, not advocating for the creative industry. Speaking to Graphic Showbiz, A Plus emphasized that the people of Gomoa Central, who voted him into office, are his priority.

“I don’t want anyone to think that Kwame A Plus is going to Parliament to fight for the interests of the entertainment industry. That is not my business there,” he said. “My interest is to work and bring satisfaction to the people of Gomoa Central who voted massively for me because of the confidence they have in me.”

He added that during his campaign, support from the creative industry was limited, with no backing from organizations such as the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) or the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG). Instead, A Plus credited a few friends within the industry who stood by him.

“Let’s be clear—no creative industry person or group put me in Parliament,” he stated. “So nobody should tell me I’m representing the creative industry. I’m going to Parliament to serve the interests of the people of Gomoa Central.”

A Plus also highlighted challenges within the creative sector, calling out industry players for self-centered attitudes. However, he praised dancehall artiste Shatta Wale for his consistent advocacy and solutions-oriented discussions. “Shatta Wale has been talking too much sense. They should go and listen to what he says; I know it will help them,” he remarked.

Kwame A Plus secured his seat in Parliament with 14,277 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of 2,640 votes. He revealed that his journey to Parliament began six years ago when he decided to prepare himself academically, earning a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, and LLB to equip himself for the role.

“I’m glad about the outcome today,” A Plus said, expressing gratitude to his constituents for their trust and pledging to deliver on his promises.
