Lagos has been selected to host the second edition of the West Africa Scrabble Championship (WASC) from November 22 to November 26, 2023.
The tournament, the largest sub-regional scrabble event in Africa, will feature participants from five countries: Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Nigeria. While the other countries will field 15 players each, Nigeria will have 20 participants.
The championship offers a prize fund of $12,000 for individual and team events. The tournament consists of 28 games, including 1 random, 22 lagged, and 5 “king of the hill” pairings.
Eta Karo of Nigeria is the defending champion in the individual category, and Nigeria holds the team event diadem, which they won in Accra, Ghana, last year.
