Latse II Files New Lawsuit Against Tsuru II, Chiefs Over Ga Mantse Title
Nii Tackie Adama Latse II has filed a fresh lawsuit at the Kumasi High Court challenging the legitimacy of Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II as Ga Mantse. The suit, filed on July 29, 2025, also targets the National House of Chiefs over decisions relating to the chieftaincy register.
This legal move comes after the Supreme Court, on July 23, overturned a Court of Appeal ruling that would have restored Latse II’s name to the National Register of Chiefs. The court’s ruling, delivered by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, emphasized that Tsuru II was not given a fair hearing in earlier judgments.
Latse II’s legal team contends that his removal from the register in 2021 was unjust, arbitrary, and a violation of the principles of natural justice. The new suit seeks declarations that Tsuru II’s entry as Ga Mantse is illegitimate. It also requests that Latse II’s name be reinstated and Tsuru II’s particulars expunged from both the National Register and the Chieftaincy Bulletin.
The dispute over the Ga Mantse title has lingered for years, with Tsuru II enstooled in 2020 and Latse II earlier in 2017. At the heart of the conflict is a claim that the National House of Chiefs made procedural errors in recognizing Tsuru II.
The Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, sitting in Dodowa, remains the primary authority to resolve core chieftaincy matters. However, the Kumasi High Court’s decision on this case could shape how chieftaincy records are managed across Ghana.
