Liati Wote Residents Left Homeless After Devastating Rainstorm


A devastating rainstorm has left hundreds of residents homeless in Liati Wote, a community in the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region. The storm, which struck on Friday, February 28, 2025, at around 6:00 PM, ripped off roofs and collapsed nearly 50 houses, displacing about 200 people.

Residents Call for Urgent Assistance

Victims of the disaster say they have been left stranded and are appealing for government support to help rebuild their homes.

“We need roofing sheets, iron rods, and other materials to fix our houses. Right now, we are perching with friends and relatives. We need the government to come to our aid,” said Gloria Osei, a resident affected by the storm.

MP and NADMO Assess the Situation in Liati Wote

Member of Parliament for Afadjato South, Frank Afriyie, visited the affected community on Monday, March 3, 2025, and has joined calls for immediate government intervention.

“These people are mostly farmers, and they already had a terrible season last year due to climate change, which affected their productivity and livelihoods. This disaster has only worsened their situation,” he stated.

Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) were also present to assess the damage and compile data on affected victims.

“We have conducted an initial assessment and gathered the necessary data. We will forward it to the national headquarters for a response. Soon, relief items will be sent to help the victims resettle,” said Gilbert Gray, Volta Regional Director of Operations, NADMO.

In the meantime, MP Frank Afriyie has provided food items and cash donations to support the affected families. However, residents continue to urge the government, NGOs, and benevolent organizations to step in with building materials and financial aid to help them rebuild their homes.
