Why Ghanaian TV Networks Must Focus on Local Content and Collaborate with Creatives
Renowned Ghanaian music video director, Awudu Musa, popularly known as Babs Direction, is advocating for local television networks to shift their focus towards promoting Ghanaian content. In recent discussions, he has pointed out the disproportionate emphasis that local TV stations place on foreign productions, especially in light of recent criticisms from Nigerian actress Bimbo Ademoye regarding unauthorized broadcasting of her films in Ghana.
On April 23, 2025, Babs Direction took to X to voice his concerns over the prioritization of foreign content over local productions. “Why are our local TV stations more focused on broadcasting foreign movies, often dubbed in our local languages, instead of investing in original Ghanaian content?” he questioned, highlighting a growing issue in the industry.
He further emphasized the need for collaboration between broadcasters and creatives to nurture and develop homegrown content that authentically represents Ghanaian culture and stories. “Ghanaian TV stations should bring creatives together to discuss how to collaborate and create content for their platforms,” he suggested, advocating for a more unified approach.
