Mahama Set to Showcase Ghanaian Fashion in July

President John Dramani Mahama will make a striking debut on the runway at Ghana Fashion Week in July 2025, as announced during the launch of the Black Star Experience in Accra on May 1, 2025. The event, a key part of the government’s initiative to boost tourism and creative arts, aims to spotlight Ghana’s cultural industries on a global stage.

Mahama, who returned to the presidency in January 2025, has long championed “Made in Ghana” clothing. He plans to wear three outfits crafted by local designers during his catwalk appearance, giving credit to the creators each time. This move aligns with his commitment to promoting Ghanaian talent and growing the nation’s creative economy.

The Black Star Experience, launched as a flagship program, focuses on seven pillars: cinema, audio, cuisines, aesthetics, style, literature, and heritage. Ghana Fashion Week, spanning seven days, will feature designers, models, and industry stakeholders, drawing attention to the country’s vibrant fashion scene.

Mahama’s participation is expected to elevate the event’s profile, especially as Africa’s creative industry continues to rise—contributing $4.2 billion to exports in 2021, according to UNESCO. His runway moment underscores a broader push to position Ghana among the world’s top cultural brands.
