President Seeks Investment at TICAD IX
President John Mahama departed Accra on August 17, 2025, for Japan and Singapore to strengthen bilateral ties and boost trade. In Japan, he will attend TICAD IX in Yokohama from August 20–22, speaking on trade and investment, and address a Ghana Presidential Investment Forum to promote Ghana’s Resetting Ghana agenda.
Mahama will meet Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, JICA, and JETRO to discuss infrastructure and technical cooperation. TICAD, hosted by Japan since 1993 with the UN, UNDP, World Bank, and AUC, has driven African development, notably through NEPAD, with $20 billion in past commitments.
In Singapore, Mahama’s three-day state visit includes meetings with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. He will pitch Ghana’s investment opportunities to deepen private-sector links, targeting technology, finance, and human capital development.
The visits aim to attract investment, expand market access for Ghanaian goods, and secure cooperation in infrastructure. Ghana’s $2.1 billion trade with Japan and Singapore in 2024, mainly cocoa and minerals, underscores the trip’s economic focus amid the Mahama administration’s reform push.
Mahama’s engagements build on Ghana’s role in TICAD’s framework for African-led development and Singapore’s growing interest in African markets. The trip, announced by spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, signals Ghana’s ambition to leverage global partnerships for sustainable growth.
