President pledges stronger military support and urges calm amid renewed Bawku tensions
President John Mahama has announced that the peace mediation process led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, aimed at restoring calm to Bawku, will resume next week.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony at the Ghana Military Academy on Friday, April 11, Mahama said the Asantehene assured him the mediation would continue upon his return from a brief trip abroad.
He urged all factions to embrace peace following recent violence in Bawku that claimed lives and caused property destruction. Mahama stressed that conflict benefits no one and praised the Ghana Armed Forces for their sacrifices in maintaining security in the volatile area.

The President also pledged to improve the military’s operational readiness by investing in advanced equipment, training, and better housing. He reaffirmed his commitment to a merit-based promotion system within the Armed Forces and highlighted Ghana’s leadership in deploying women in UN peacekeeping missions.
Addressing recent allegations about drug trafficking through international flights, Mahama warned against making baseless claims for political gain, stating that his administration would treat all credible criminal allegations seriously but would not waste resources on political theatrics.
