President Mahama Orders Recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recall all Diplomatic and Service passports by January 24, 2025, for re-issuance to eligible holders. This directive was outlined in a statement signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, and dated January 14, 2025.

The government emphasized that the exercise aims to uphold the integrity of Ghana’s official travel documents and ensure compliance with national and international standards. The recall also seeks to prevent misuse and protect the country’s reputation in diplomatic engagements.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been tasked with issuing a public notice to inform all current holders of Diplomatic and Service passports from the previous administration about the recall. Holders must return their passports to the ministry for verification and re-issuance, where necessary.

A compliance deadline has been set for January 24, 2025. The ministry is expected to conduct a thorough review of the returned passports to confirm eligibility under the revised issuance criteria.
