Mahama Encourages Workers to Address Issues and Foster Prosperity
President John Dramani Mahama has urged workers in State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to speak up against any malpractices at their workplaces. His concerns arise from some SOEs, previously profitable, now facing debts. Responding to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s March 13 disclosure that GIHOC Distilleries reported losses of GH₵25.1 million in 2022 and GH₵25.5 million in 2023, Mahama stressed the need for accountability.
Addressing the May Day parade at Independence Square, Mahama questioned, “How can you sell alcohol and be in debt?” He reminisced about GIHOC’s profitable past during his presidency, pointing out the cultural significance of alcohol in Ghana. He urged employees to exert effort to restore their enterprises’ profitability and to not hesitate to highlight issues.
“Protect the enterprises you work at,” Mahama emphasized, promoting collaboration and mutual respect between employers and employees. He assured workers that their sacrifices would eventually be rewarded with better remuneration, pledging a committed government that values modesty and shared sacrifice.
In a Facebook post, Mahama lauded the dedication of Ghanaian workers, recognizing their essential role in the country’s growth. He reiterated his commitment to nurturing an environment conducive for workers’ success, aligning with his broader plan to reset Ghana’s development agenda. “You are the engine of our economy,” he stated, affirming his support for a thriving workforce to drive national progress.
