No more Post-Retirement Contracts for Public Servants

President John Dramani Mahama has officially put a stop to post-retirement contract appointments for public servants. From now on, any requests for these contract extensions won’t even be entertained.

This new directive was shared in a letter dated April 2, signed by Dr. Calistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President.

“The approval of post-retirement contract appointments for retired public service workers has been suspended with immediate effect.

As a result, all future requests for such appointments should no longer be submitted. Kindly take note and ensure full compliance,” the letter emphasized.

This move follows ongoing discussions about ending the practice, which many believe prevents younger people from getting a fair shot at public service jobs.

Typically, retirees who are supposed to leave their roles are re-hired on contract, often with the argument that their skills and experience are still needed.
