President George Vella Highlights Areas of Collaboration During State Visit.

Malta’s President, George Vella, has pledged to strengthen cooperation with Ghana, focusing on exchanges between the private sector and civil society. He highlighted mutual interests in trade, agriculture, fisheries, financial services, tourism, culture, climate change, environment, and pharmaceuticals.

President Vella mentioned the establishment of a joint commission to implement progress in various areas of interest. Bilateral discussions and the opening of diplomatic offices signify both countries’ commitment to deepening their relationship.

During his three-day state visit, President Vella emphasized Malta’s Africa strategy and its commitment to supporting Ghana within the European Union. He highlighted opportunities for Ghanaian youth in education, training, and higher education institutes in Malta.

On security, President Vella stressed the need for continued regional cooperation, especially regarding migration. He called for implementing the UN Global Compact for migration and refugees.

President Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s President, echoed the importance of the visit, emphasizing discussions on trade, support for international candidates, migration issues, and reforming global organizations. Both leaders affirmed their support for each other’s international candidates and discussed driving investment opportunities domestically and internationally.

The visit marks the second time a Maltese President has visited Ghana in the 50-year bilateral relations between the two countries, showcasing the commitment to enhancing cooperation and partnerships.
