Police say suspect confessed, attempted suicide after killing Maa Abena
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Robert Kwabena Boamah, for the gruesome murder of a young woman whose body was discovered with multiple stab wounds earlier this week.
Boamah was apprehended on Wednesday, April 23, at his hideout in Namong, near Offinso, after swift police investigations linked him to the killing of 23-year-old Dorothy Owusu Annor, popularly known as Maa Abena. Her lifeless body was found near the Mighty Jesus Educational Complex at Dominase in the Tanoso Electoral Area, Kwadaso Municipality.
The murder came to light on Monday, April 21, when a distress call to the police led officers to the scene. Upon arrival, police found the victim’s body bearing multiple stab wounds. Nearby, an abandoned Opel Astra taxi with registration number AS 8575-Y was discovered, its ignition key still in place—an early lead that would prove crucial.
Investigations later confirmed that the vehicle belonged to Boamah, prompting a manhunt that led to his arrest. According to the police, the suspect confessed to the murder during interrogation. Officers also revealed that Boamah appeared physically weak at the time of his arrest, later admitting he had attempted to take his own life by ingesting weedicide.
He was quickly rushed to the Abuakwa Polyclinic, where he received treatment and was subsequently discharged. Boamah is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days to face murder charges.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to tackling violent crime and ensuring justice is served, while urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
