Man Caught Trying to Steal Mercedes-Benz During Test Drive in Accra
On Monday, January 6, 2025, a young man was apprehended in Accra after attempting to flee with a Mercedes-Benz C300 that was listed for sale. The suspect had requested a test drive near Haasto KFC, but instead of returning the car, he tried to abscond with it.
The car dealer, realizing the suspect’s intentions, pursued him. Following a heated chase, the suspect was caught and arrested. A video shared on the social media platform X shows a crowd at the scene physically assaulting the suspect. However, it remains unclear whether he was handed over to the police or released after the ordeal.

This incident echoes a similar case in 2020 when a woman, Eunice Nyarkoa, was arrested for stealing a Hyundai Sonata valued at GH₵45,000. She reportedly fled with the car after a test drive, forged the owner’s signature, and registered the vehicle in her name at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
Test drive thefts highlight growing concerns among car dealers in Ghana about securing their vehicles during sale processes. Dealers are being urged to tighten safety measures during transactions to prevent such incidents.
