Russ Cook Faced Visa Issues, Health Scares, and Robbery.
In an incredible display of endurance and determination, Russ Cook, known as the ‘Hardest Geezer,’ has completed his monumental challenge of running the entire length of Africa, covering over 16,000km and crossing 16 countries. His journey, which began on April 22, 2023, at South Africa’s most southerly point, culminated in a final leg from Ghezala, Tunisia, to Ras Angela, the country’s most northerly point. Despite facing visa complications, health scares, and even an armed robbery along the way, Cook, 27, remained undeterred in his quest to become the first person to achieve this remarkable feat.
Throughout his journey, dubbed Project Africa, Cook raised an impressive £650,000 for two charities, the Running Charity and Sandblast. His final day saw an outpouring of support from his followers, as many joined him in running the last marathon. Cook expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “How can you be tired when there’s this many people running with you? There’s so much energy.” He also announced a celebratory finish line party in Bizerte, Tunisia, featuring a performance by the British punk rock band Soft Play, formerly known as Slaves, to mark his extraordinary accomplishment.
