From Retail Banking to Second Deputy Governor: The Journey of Matilda Asante-Asiedu


President John Mahama has named Matilda Asante-Asiedu as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG). This appointment, made under the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), was officially announced by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, on April 28, 2025. Asante-Asiedu’s career showcases her versatility and leadership in sectors such as Retail Banking, Marketing Communications, and Journalism.

Before her new role, Asante-Asiedu was the Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana Plc. Here, she managed portfolios ranging from individual customers to high net-worth individuals and led the bank’s financial inclusion strategy for women, known as the W Initiative. This initiative earned international acclaim, including the “Global Financial Inclusion Award” from The Banker Magazine in 2020.

Her previous positions include Head of Exclusive Banking, where she executed strategies for women and managed the Embassies, NGOs, and Private Banking sectors. From 2010 to 2015, Asante-Asiedu excelled in Corporate Communications and Brand Management, significantly enhancing corporate reputation and securing awards for Corporate Social Responsibility.

Asante-Asiedu’s influence extends to Ghanaian journalism and corporate consulting. Her work has been recognized internationally, being named among the Top 100 Inspirational Women in Africa by Glitz Africa and Crown Women Rising in 2019. Her extensive experience and recognized achievements make her an exemplary choice for her new position at the Bank of Ghana.
