Ghanaian entrepreneur urges youth to believe in hard work and perseverance

Ghanaian entrepreneur Dr. Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, has opened up about his inspiring journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Ghana’s most successful business figures. In an interview with NYDJ, the founder and CEO of McDan Group reflected on his early days selling bofrot (deep-fried doughnuts) and kerosene on the streets of La. He shared that despite his modest start, perseverance and hard work enabled him to achieve great success.

McDan expressed concern about how wealth is often perceived today, particularly on social media. According to him, there is a growing trend of skepticism toward affluent individuals, with many assuming that success stems from dishonesty rather than hard work. “People ask, ‘How can a messenger build an empire?’ or ‘How can someone who sold kerosene become successful?’” he said. McDan emphasized that his story proves that anyone, regardless of background, can succeed through determination.

To teach his own son the value of hard work, McDan revealed that he made him work as a security guard. He explained that this experience was meant to instill empathy and understanding toward employees at all levels when his son eventually leads his own company. “So that when he becomes the group chairman of his company and the security guard is complaining, he would understand,” McDan noted.

Beyond building his own empire, McDan is committed to mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs. He said he takes pride in helping and guiding young people who are willing to put in the effort to succeed. Through mentorship and support, McDan aims to change lives and inspire others to believe in the power of perseverance and self-discipline.

He concluded by encouraging young people not to be swayed by negativity but instead to focus on hard work and resilience. By sharing his story, McDan hopes to shift perceptions about wealth and success, proving that honesty, grit, and determination can indeed lead to greatness.
