Ghanaian-American comedian Michael Blackson has announced his intention to consider a career in politics. In a tweet, Blackson revealed he is on a journey to educate himself on politics with the aim of helping his community. He stressed that his motivation to enter politics is not for personal gain but to make a positive impact. “Miss the common people. I’m going to learn all I can about politics so I can help my people one day,” he wrote.

Blackson has recently been outspoken about his frustrations with the government, particularly regarding a failed Eurobond investment. The comedian invested in these bonds with the hope that the returns would support the free school he built in Ghana. However, the government’s use of funds from these investments to pay off debts has disrupted his plans, leaving him disappointed.

Criticizing the Finance Ministry, Blackson explained the challenges he and other diaspora investors face due to the government’s debt repayment decisions. He described his investment options as frustrating, with the choice between a 37% cut and low returns over many years. “I’m very disappointed in my people for this,” he remarked, signaling his frustration with how funds were managed.

Despite the setbacks, Blackson remains committed to supporting his school, which costs $10,000 a month to operate. His experience with the government’s handling of investments appears to have fueled his interest in learning more about politics, as he seeks to create lasting change for the betterment of his community.
