A 28-year-old small-scale miner, Collins Adu, has been sentenced to one day imprisonment and fined GH¢8,400 for stealing a motorbike worth GH¢13,500. The Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, warned that Adu faces seven years of hard labor if he fails to pay the fine.
Prosecutor Chief Inspector Abraham Ayitey explained that Adu stole the unregistered Haojin motorbike from the home of Francis Arhin, a commercial motor rider residing in Bawdie, Wassa Amenfi East Municipality. Adu confessed to sneaking into Arhin’s compound on October 19, 2024, and stealing the bike, which he used for errands.
The complainant, upon noticing the theft, informed neighbors and friends in the area. On October 27, Adu was spotted riding the motorbike in Bawdie. He was apprehended and handed over to the police, where he admitted to the crime.
The court found Adu guilty of unlawful entry and theft, and he pleaded for leniency. While the motorbike was recovered, the ruling emphasized the consequences of Adu’s actions.
