MTN Ghana CEO Recounts Mobile Money Scam Experience

MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, has shared a personal experience of nearly falling victim to a mobile money scam, highlighting the increasing threat of fraud in the country.

Speaking on his first anniversary as MTN Ghana CEO, Blewett revealed that the incident took place during his first month in office when a fraudster attempted to deceive him over the phone.

Scam Attempt on MTN’s CEO

Blewett recounted how the fraudster falsely claimed he had made a mobile money transfer and tried to manipulate him into believing it. Rather than hanging up, he decided to engage the scammer for 15 minutes to prevent him from targeting another victim.

“Eventually, I told him I was the CEO of MTN, and he didn’t believe me. He got upset and hung up. But this experience serves as a reminder of how important it is to stay vigilant,” Blewett stated.
