Singer Defends Her Stance Amid Social Media Backlash

Veteran Ghanaian musician Mzbel, known in private life as Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, has sparked controversy after stating that she would never employ someone from the Ga tribe, despite her strong ties to the community.

Speaking on Showbiz A-Z, where the discussion focused on how Ga-Adangbes can support each other, Mzbel explained that her past experiences with Ga employees have influenced her hiring decisions.

“I acknowledge that Ga people should support each other, but I personally won’t employ a Ga because those I have worked with in the past have proven to be lazy,” she asserted.

Mzbel further claimed that many Ga youth only seek jobs due to parental pressure and lack a strong work ethic. She alleged that once hired, they often fail to meet expectations, frequently missing work with excuses such as attending funerals or other social events.

Her remarks have sparked intense backlash on social media, with many Ga community members expressing outrage. However, Mzbel has refused to apologise, insisting that she was merely sharing her personal experiences.

In a social media post, she defended her comments, highlighting her efforts to invest in a Ga Dangbe artiste under her son’s record label.

“I’m investing my money, time, energy, ideas, and connections into a talented Ga Dangbe artiste I recently signed to my son’s record label! Instead of supporting me, some of you are attacking me for sharing my personal experience with Ga Dangme employees,” she wrote.

Mzbel also questioned whether Ga musicians and cultural groups receive enough support from their own community.

“Did you even listen to my entire conversation on Joy FM? I highlighted many positive points about Ga Dangme creatives! And by the way, how many Ga musicians and cultural troupes were hired for the extravagant birthday party recently held in Gamashie?”

She ended her post defiantly, saying:
“Worry about that and leave me alone. I owe no one an apology for speaking the truth.”
