Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Others Exonerated in Mohbad’s Death Case
A Magistrate Court has exonerated popular Nigerian singer Naira Marley and three others from any involvement in the death of Afrobeats artist Mohbad.
Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, who presided over the case, dismissed claims linking Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, to the tragedy.
However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ordered the prosecution of Mohbad’s auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and his friend, Ayobami Sadiq, for reckless and negligent acts under Lagos State’s criminal laws.
Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, was a rising star in the Nigerian Afrobeats scene. He tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.
His sudden death sparked widespread controversy, leading to protests and calls for a thorough investigation. Initial reports suggested Mohbad fell ill after receiving an injection from an auxiliary nurse to treat an ear infection.
However, his passing raised suspicions, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding his death. Videos surfaced showing Mohbad in distress days before his death, and allegations of bullying, threats, and assault from former associates, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry, fueled public outrage.
With the court’s latest ruling, Naira Marley and others have been cleared of all accusations related to Mohbad’s death, while the focus now shifts to the prosecution of the nurse and friend implicated in the case.
