Award-winning Reggae dancehall artiste, Samini, has criticized the government’s decision to build the National Cathedral in Ghana, expressing concerns about the timing. He believes that the project is a misplaced priority, considering the economic challenges facing the country and the pressing needs of its citizens. This statement was made during an interview with Hitz FM on October 13, 2023

Samini stated that it would be wiser for the government to allocate the resources intended for the National Cathedral to more essential sectors of the economy, where they can address the current economic difficulties and improve the well-being of the Ghanaian people. He emphasized that the government should invest in areas like agriculture, which could significantly contribute to economic growth.

In Samini’s view, the National Cathedral project is obsolete and unnecessary, especially in a world where people have various modern options for worship, such as podcasts and online services. He stressed the importance of redirecting the financial resources toward sectors that would have a more significant and positive impact on the country.

The National Cathedral project has faced suspension due to financial difficulties, and criticism from public figures like Samini has grown. They argue that the current economic challenges in Ghana make it an inappropriate time for such an ambitious construction project.
