The National Chief Imam, His Eminence Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has thrown his weight behind the upcoming “Ride Afrique Accra Criterium”, a prestigious cycling race slated for 4th April 2026 at the Accra Sports Stadium. 

Since its debut in 2019, the Ride Afrique project driven by CEO Richard Agu and officially sanctioned by the Ghana Cycling Federation has become a breeding ground for top riders from Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. 

The competition has consistently produced podium finishers helping to raise the profile ofAfrican cycling on the international stage.

This year’s criterium will be held and offering spectators a vibrant mix of high‑speed sprints and tactical racing. Beyond the sport, the event serves as a platform for promoting healthy lifestyles, youth engagement and tourism, aligning perfectly with national development goals that the government has championed.

The presence of Chief Imam Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu adds a profound spiritual dimension to the race. As the country’s most revered Islamic leader, his attendance signals a message of unity, peace and inter‑faith solidarity, reinforcing the event’s purpose. 

According to the CEO Richard Agu, the Chief Imam’s blessing and attendance will draw large crowds, boost local businesses and cement the Ride Afrique Accra Criterium as a must‑patronage cycling event on Ghana’s sporting calendar.

Organisers expect more than 200 cyclists from across Ghana and the wider African continent to line up for the day‑long event, underscoring the race’s growing reputation as a showcase of talent and endurance.
