National Security Bans Drone Use at Presidential Inauguration
Ghana’s National Security Ministry has banned all drone operations during the Presidential inauguration set for Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The directive applies to both recreational and commercial drones in and around the Black Star Square to ensure the safety of dignitaries and attendees.
In a press release dated January 2, Acting Chief Director Lily Fati Soale emphasized that the measure aims to provide a secure environment for the event. Drone operators have been urged to comply with the directive and respect all security protocols.
The inauguration will see thousands of Ghanaians and dignitaries gather to witness President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang take their oaths of office. Mahama was declared President-elect on December 9, 2024, securing 56.55% of the vote against Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Ahead of the ceremony, Members of Parliament-elect and the Speaker-elect will be sworn in late on January 6. The event marks the culmination of a closely watched election and the beginning of a new administration.
In related news, outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo delivered his final State of the Nation Address on January 3, insisting Ghana’s economy is stable despite claims to the contrary. He highlighted nearly $8 billion in gross international reserves as evidence of his administration’s efforts to leave behind a strong economic foundation.
