Fifi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed that the next NDC administration will prosecute all corrupt officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. In a bold statement aimed at rallying voters ahead of the December 7 polls, Kwetey emphasized the importance of accountability and deterrence in governance.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, Kwetey criticized the current NPP administration for what he described as the “wanton dissipation of public funds.” He asserted that such misconduct would not go unpunished under an NDC government, promising stringent actions against corrupt officials to set a precedent for future administrations.
“The wanton dissipation of public funds by officials of the NPP administration will not go unpunished. The people of Ghana must rally together to make sure that these people are prosecuted so that an example is set once and for all for generations to come,” Kwetey stated.
Kwetey’s remarks underscore the NDC’s campaign message of integrity and justice. He urged Ghanaians to vote out the NPP, whom he described as “insensitive, corrupt, and uncaring,” to restore faith in the country’s leadership.
“And a group of this nature, the best way to deal with them is to first and foremost get them out of power. December 7 must be a day for the people of Ghana to speak,” Kwetey added, calling for a collective effort to ensure the prosecution of corrupt officials.
The NDC’s promise to prosecute NPP officials marks a significant stance in the political landscape, highlighting the party’s commitment to fighting corruption and promoting transparency. This announcement comes at a crucial time as the nation prepares for the upcoming elections, with corruption and governance being pivotal issues for voters.
Political analysts note that this move by the NDC could resonate with many Ghanaians who are dissatisfied with the current administration’s handling of public resources. By focusing on accountability, the NDC aims to galvanize support and present itself as a credible alternative to the NPP.
As the election campaign intensifies, both parties are expected to ramp up their rhetoric and promises. The NDC’s pledge to tackle corruption head-on may set the tone for a fiercely contested election, with governance and integrity taking center stage.
The NDC’s commitment to prosecuting corrupt officials, if realized, could usher in a new era of political accountability in Ghana, potentially reshaping the country’s approach to governance and public service.
