Through his own social media accounts, Neymar himself confirmed the worst case scenario after undergoing medical tests on his left leg. During last Tuesday’s clash between Uruguay and Brazil, Neymar suffered what seemed like a serious injury as he quickly started crying in pain. After the game, Neymar was seen on crutches. The player himself confirmed he suffered a complete tear of his ACL and his meniscus. The worst fears have been confirmed, his club (Al-Hilal) also confirmed the news through their official website.

The Al-Hilal star suffered the very first knee injury of his entire career at the age of 31, a journey that has taken him from playing the sport he loves the most for a total of 2 full years already. Amongst the injuries he has suffered, Neymar already suffered multiple muscular issues, he already fractures both of his ankles, he suffered a fractured rib one, and that famous lower back injury he suffered against Colombia in the 2014 World Cup. However, Neymar had never suffered a knee injury like the one he got last Tuesday. Since 2020, Neymar has already accumulated 424 days with no activity due to injuries.

Neymar could also miss the 2024 Copa America

With the news, Neymar will also undergo a new surgery and a long recovery process for the 31-year old player. His prime objective seems clear enough: recover in time to make the Copa America roster that will take place in the United States in 2024. Brazil’s first match will take place on June 20, which is about 8 months from today. Coincidentally, he will be out of activity recovering between 7 and 8 months. These timings are extremely tight for Neymar to return to the pitch. Amid his never-ending injury problems, many are even considering Neymar might be better off if he retired from the sport completely. But knowing his resilience, Ney will try to return and continue playing no matter what.
