NHIA Boosts Healthcare with GH¢267.67M Claims Payment

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) released GH¢267.67 million on July 7, 2025, to settle claims for health facilities across Ghana, as announced by 3News. This payment covers claims from January to March 2025, easing financial burdens on hospitals and clinics under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The funds, approved by Acting CEO Dr. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden, bring NHIA’s total payments for 2025 to over GH¢1.5 billion. The authority aims to maintain a debt-free status and ensure timely reimbursements, supporting over 17 million NHIS members who rely on affordable healthcare.

Health facilities had faced challenges due to delayed payments, with some threatening to reject NHIS cards. This follows a GH¢259 million disbursement in May 2025, showing NHIA’s commitment to stabilizing the scheme amid rising healthcare demands.

The NHIA urged providers to use the funds to enhance services, especially with recent outbreaks like COVID-19 at UG and H1N1 in the Eastern Region. The payment aims to boost confidence among healthcare providers and ensure that patients receive quality care.
