Pants-free Passengers on London’s Subways are Turning Heads

Hundreds of Londoners brought cheer to the Underground on Sunday, January 12, 2025, by stripping down to their underwear for the annual No Trousers Tube Ride. The event, launched in 2002 in New York, has since spread globally, landing in London in 2009. It aims to inject some humor into winter’s gloom with no deeper purpose than pure fun.

Participants gathered at Chinatown before heading to Piccadilly Circus station, where they boarded Tube trains in various states of undress. Organizer Dave Selkirk explained the motive: “There’s so much bad going on—it’s nice to do something just for the sake of it.” Selfies were snapped, puzzled tourists looked on, and laughter filled the carriages.

Inspired by the global movement started by comedian Charlie Todd, this lighthearted stunt has grown to include cities like Berlin, Prague, and Washington, D.C. London’s ride was no exception, with participants embracing the fun in creative outfits. Lawyer Basil Long sported Underground-themed socks and pink underwear, stating, “Why not? It’s always the question.”

Some participants, like 43-year-old chef Miriam Correa, also joined to send a message. “I am a real woman,” she said, emphasizing body positivity. “All bodies are perfect.” The event welcomed people of all shapes, sizes, and ages, spreading a message of acceptance alongside the humor.

The No Trousers Tube Ride brought warmth to London’s chilly January, proving that sometimes, the best way to fight winter blues is by embracing silliness and community spirit.
