Ex-Dome-Kwabenya MP Defies Party Directive, Faces Disciplinary Action, Over Media Comments

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, to its National Disciplinary Committee for allegedly violating a directive prohibiting party members from discussing internal matters that could create disaffection.

According to a statement issued by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, Adwoa Safo’s recent remarks on Joy News’ Pulse Show directly contravened the party’s instructions. “Her actions not only disregard this directive but also undermine the party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward,” the statement read. The party emphasized that her conduct was in breach of Article 3(5) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates members to promote and defend the party’s reputation.

During the interview, Adwoa Safo described the NPP’s 2024 election review committee as “bogus” and warned against blaming Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the party’s defeat. She also declared that she would not contest for the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat again, citing mistreatment despite her years of sacrifice and hard work. Instead, she hinted at aspiring for the position of Speaker of Parliament or pursuing “higher challenging opportunities.”

The former Deputy Majority Leader and Minister of State also stated that the NPP would bring back Dr. Bawumia as its presidential candidate in 2028, insisting that he is well-marketed and deserves another chance. “Nobody should tell us not to bring Dr. Bawumia. He is hardworking, and we will continue to market him,” she declared.

The NPP disciplinary proceedings will determine the consequences of her actions as the party looks to maintain unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
