Consultants working on the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange project in Accra have raised concerns over the persistent theft of streetlight components and other essential materials, which threatens to compromise the project’s safety and quality. Despite the thefts, the project is still on track for its scheduled completion in September, but the situation underscores the need for better security measures.

Stolen items include streetlight components, bolts, nuts, railings, and metal slabs, all critical to the project’s progress. The theft has exacerbated the recurring problem of malfunctioning streetlights in Accra, prompting calls for a national effort to secure construction sites and prevent further losses.

City authorities have been urged to address the issue of streetlight theft, which not only hinders progress but also poses a safety risk to the public. The consultants emphasized that while the project is still on schedule, continued theft could lead to delays and increased costs.

The Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange is a crucial infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in Accra. As the project nears completion, the consultants are calling for heightened vigilance and security to ensure that the final stages are completed without further disruptions.
