Mahama Ayariga Outlines Probes, Economic Gains
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga announced that Parliament’s second meeting will prioritize investigations into financial scandals, including COVID-19 expenditure, the Agyapa Royalties deal, and the $190 million Power Distribution Services (PDS) scandal. The Majority Caucus aims to ensure accountability for alleged misappropriation of public funds.
Ayariga emphasized that Parliament will demand regular updates on Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), which is reviewing $20 billion in financial crimes. He condemned impunity as a threat to democracy, pledging thorough inquiries into sole-sourced contracts and procurement practices to restore integrity in public finance management.

In the same address, Ayariga praised Ghana’s economic recovery under President John Mahama, attributing it to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s “Forsonnomics.” The Ghanaian cedi appreciated by 24.1% against the US dollar since January 2025, reducing fuel, transport, and imported food prices.
Key legislative reforms, including the removal of the e-levy, carbon tax, and VAT on insurance, alongside restructured gold mining levies and increased funding for education and health, have driven this turnaround. Ayariga urged MPs to focus on fiscal prudence and private sector growth to sustain economic progress.
