Members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Youth and Culture have motivated the Black Stars team and assured them of the nation’s support ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Chad on Friday.
The committee deemed it necessary to encourage the Stars following recent disappointments and the failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, hence the visit and words of motivation.
The select committee, led by Hon. Henry Norgbey and Hon. Vincent Ekow Assifuah, chairman and ranking member respectively, visited the Black Stars during their final training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, March 21. Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Henry Norgbey, assured the Stars that they had the support of the entire nation.
“Today, all 278 constituencies are going to be represented at the stadium to cheer you up. Ghanaians are yearning to go to Mexico, USA, and Canada, and so the spirit of the nation is behind you, and when the spirit of the nation is behind you, you cannot falter,” he said.
The ranking member of the sports committee, Hon. Vincent Ekow Assifuah, also pleaded with the team for maximum concentration throughout the game.
“I can only plead and urge you, that as professionals, concentration is very key, especially for the 90 minutes. If we lose a minute or two of concentration, we may have a problem. Concentration is very key, and if you do so within the 90 minutes, you’ll come out with flying colors.” He said.
Black Stars Captain Jordan Ayew thanked the Honourable members for their time and support and assured them of victory on Friday.
The world cup qualifier has been scheduled for today at the Accra sports stadium, kick-off at 7pm.
