Government Announces Reduction in Passport Fees
The Government of Ghana has announced plans to reduce the cost of an ordinary passport from GH¢500 to GH¢350, marking a 25% decrease aimed at making it more accessible to citizens.
This was revealed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, while addressing Parliament on March 13, 2025.

“The government recognizes concerns about the affordability of the new passport and is committed to ensuring that the cost remains reasonable while maintaining high security standards. As part of efforts to make passports more accessible to all Ghanaians, and per the president’s directive, we are pleased to announce that the cost of the ordinary passport booklet (32 pages) will be reduced from GH¢500 to GH¢350,” he stated.
New Door-to-Door Delivery Service
In addition to the price reduction, the Ministry will introduce a new door-to-door delivery service as part of its new 24-hour service initiative, making the document acquisition process more convenient for Ghanaians.
The fee adjustment follows a previous increase announced in April 2024, which was in line with the 2023 Fees and Charges Regulations (L.I. 2481). The Ministry will soon present the amended fees and charges to Parliament for approval before the new prices take effect.
