The Pig Farmers Association of Ghana has announced a price increase for pig and pork products, effective December 15, 2024. The New minimum prices will be Ghc 35 per kilogram for live weight and Ghc 50 per kilogram for Carcass at farm Gate.

This announcement was made at the climax of the annual Porktober 2024 celebration, held at the Coconut Grove Regency hotel in Accra on November 30, 2024.

According to Mr. Kwame Appiah Danquah, President of the Pig Farmers Association of Ghana, the price increase is a result of high feed costs and fluctuating production costs. Despite these challenges, the association is committed to ensuring that Ghana achieves self-sufficiency in meat production. This price adjustment is expected to support the growth of the pig farming industry in Ghana.

The Pig Farmers Association of Ghana has previously announced price increases due to similar challenges. In September 2022, the association announced a 15-30% price increase due to rising feed costs and husbandry expenses. Similarly, in November 2023, the association announced a 20% price increase, citing high production costs.

However, the association is confident that the increase will support the growth of the industry and ultimately benefit consumers.

The Pig Farmers Association of Ghana is committed to promoting the growth and development of the pig farming industry in Ghana. Through initiatives like Porktober, the association aims to raise awareness about the importance of pork production and promote the consumption of pork products.

As the industry continues to evolve, it is essential for stakeholders to work together to address the challenges facing pig farmers.
