In a chilling incident that has gone viral on social media, a police officer in Awoshie, Accra, apprehended a motorbike rider who was found carrying human body parts in his bag. The footage shows the officer questioning the visibly distressed young man, who is seen kneeling and pleading while denying any knowledge of the bag’s contents.
“Whose head is in your bag? Is it a man or a woman? Are you saying you just picked up the bag and have no idea who it is?” the officer questioned. The suspect, identified as a mason, claimed he was instructed by someone named Nana Atta to deliver the remains.
This incident follows a recent case in which two individuals were convicted for the 2021 murder of a 10-year-old boy in Kasoa, a crime committed for ritual purposes. The High Court handed down a life sentence to the older of the two, while the juvenile was referred for sentencing.
These crimes are part of a larger issue in parts of West Africa, where ritual killings surge during festive seasons. Driven by beliefs in prosperity through sacrifices, these acts often tragically target vulnerable individuals. The surge in ritual-related incidents underscores the pressing need for vigilance and community awareness to protect at-risk individuals.
