Media Reports on Officer Detention Deemed False by Police
The Ghana Police Service has firmly dismissed reports circulating in parts of the media, which claimed that four officers were detained for arresting a Circuit Court Judge over a traffic offence. In a statement, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) described these publications as “false, baseless and without merit.”
According to the CID, the reports misrepresent an ongoing investigation related to a complaint from the judge. The CID clarified that none of the officers involved have been detained. The department highlighted that the allegations stem from a petition received on April 7, 2025, from a Circuit Court Judge. The judge alleged harassment and wrongful actions by the officers against her and her staff.
Following the petition, the CID stated it began investigations and invited the officers involved—Inspector Godwin Dey, Inspector Francis Adjei, G/Sgt Dasebre Oti Boateng, and G/Cpl Jonah Ajubulisa—to share their accounts. The officers were invited to the CID headquarters, where they provided their statements and left immediately after, contrary to the reports of detention.
The Police Administration urged the public to disregard the false reports and reiterated its unwavering commitment to due process and accountability. It reassured the public that it will continue to support officers acting lawfully while investigating any misconduct reports diligently.
The statement concluded with a strong stance on professionalism, assuring that any incidents of misconduct by the police towards the public will be promptly investigated, and necessary actions will follow. The administration continues to uphold the integrity and professionalism of the Police Service.
