Western Region Police Crack Down on Galamsey, Arrest 15, Seize Excavators
The Western Regional Police Command has successfully raided illegal mining sites in Avelebo and Akango within the Evalue Ajomoro-Gwira District of the Western Region.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 15 individuals, including seven foreign nationals and eight Ghanaian miners, all suspected of engaging in illegal small-scale mining (galamsey).
Additionally, the police seized 10 excavators along with other mining equipment, which officials say will be used as key evidence in the prosecution of the suspects.

Authorities report that the illegal miners had taken over the Evalue Jomoro enclave, polluting the Ankobra River through their unauthorized mining activities, posing significant environmental and health risks.

The Western Regional Police Command emphasized that further investigations are underway to ensure that all individuals connected to the illegal mining operations are brought to justice.
