President Akufo-Addo Outlines Strategic Projects to Boost Ghana’s Economy and Industrialization.

President Akufo-Addo has hinted at Ghana’s plans to end the exportation of raw bauxite, emphasizing its impact on the country’s industrialization efforts. Speaking at the 67th independence anniversary celebration in Koforidua, the President highlighted the importance of refining bauxite locally for the production of various products, including parts for motor vehicles, aircraft, roofing sheets, and home utensils.

The President expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic prospects, noting that the country has overcome challenging economic circumstances. He outlined two key projects aimed at boosting Ghana’s economy and industrial sector:

  1. Alumina Refinery and Mines Development: President Akufo-Addo announced the selection of strategic partners to work with the Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC) on building a new alumina refinery and developing mines at Nyinahin-Mpasaaso. This project is part of the Integrated Aluminium Industry (IAI) projects and is expected to significantly impact Ghana’s industrialization efforts.
  2. Ada Songhor Salt Project: The President highlighted the Ada Songhor Salt project led by ElectroChem Salt Mine Ltd, which is set to become the largest salt producing facility in Africa. With an initial production capacity of 650,000 metric tonnes per annum, expanding to two million metric tonnes by 2027, the project is expected to bring significant economic benefits.

President Akufo-Addo expressed hope that these projects, along with other government initiatives, would lead to a breakthrough in Ghana’s economic fortunes. He also mentioned the ongoing litigation over the Atewa Forest Range in Kyebi, expressing hope that once settled, the Kyebi Bauxite Mine and Refinery could further contribute to employment and economic development.

The Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara, was the special guest of honour at the 67th Independence Day Parade, which was attended by top government officials including the President, Vice President, and Ministers of State.
