Mahama’s First SONA to Outline Ghana’s Economic Recovery Plans
President John Dramani Mahama is set to deliver his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 27, 2025, according to an announcement by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga in Parliament on Friday, February 21.
The address, a constitutional requirement, will shed light on Ghana’s current economic state, inherited challenges, and the administration’s roadmap for economic recovery.
Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister of State in charge of government communications, noted that President Mahama will focus on the legacy of the previous administration and present a comprehensive plan to revive the economy.
The SONA will also lay the foundation for critical economic discussions ahead of the National Economic Dialogue, slated for March 3–4, 2025. This dialogue will gather stakeholders from various sectors to propose solutions aimed at transforming the economy.
Additionally, Finance Minister Ato Forson is expected to present the government’s first budget on March 11, 2025. The budget will highlight key economic policies, strategies to overcome current challenges, and measures aimed at stabilizing and growing the economy.
President Mahama’s address is anticipated to provide clear policy directions and reassure Ghanaians of the government’s commitment to restoring economic stability and sustainable growth.
