A young pupil at Sumborun Basic School in the Sissala East Municipality of Ghana sustained head injuries when a classroom shed collapsed on her. The incident occurred while students were attempting to repair the structure, which had been left unfinished for over four years. Local authorities say the project had stalled due to a lack of resources.

Assemblyman Dangor File revealed that the shed was a temporary structure erected by the students themselves because their parents were too busy with farming activities to help. Unfortunately, while the children gathered materials for the repairs, a log fell, injuring a primary one pupil, Zaachi Hanawu, who was treated and discharged from a local clinic.

Calls have been made for the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and local authorities to step in and address the dire infrastructure issues at the school. The Municipal Chief Executive, Fuseini Batong Yakubu, confirmed that other essential projects in the area, including a classroom block, are also incomplete.

The community is now urging the government to take swift action to ensure the safety of students.
