PURC Directs Utilities to Resolve Electricity Supply Issues
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) held an emergency meeting on May 23, 2025, with Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) to address ongoing power outages across Ghana.
Initiated due to consumer complaints, the meeting aimed to identify causes of disruptions, including overloaded systems, inadequate bulk supply points, and vegetation interference. PURC Executive Secretary Dr. Shafic Suleman emphasized protecting consumer interests and maintaining service standards.
GRIDCo, ECG, and NEDCo briefed PURC on technical challenges, such as long feeders and network tampering. The Commission directed them to submit detailed reports on current issues, immediate fixes, and long-term prevention strategies.
PURC stressed the need for transparent public communication during outages to build trust. The Commission committed to enforcing performance standards and urged consumers to report service issues to ensure a reliable electricity supply nationwide.
