Residents of Dambai, situated in the Oti Region, have raised their voices in a plea to the government to address the dire condition of the town’s roads. The ongoing Dambai town roads project, which was initiated in 2018, has been abandoned since 2020, leaving the roads in an impassable state and causing inconvenience for both motorists and commuters.
Reports from Adom News indicate that the contractor assigned to the Dambai town roads project halted work and deserted the site due to financial challenges and contractual issues. This abrupt cessation of work has stirred frustration and discontent among local residents.
Numerous residents have expressed their grievances, with some even vowing not to participate in the forthcoming general election unless the road issue is resolved. The deterioration of the roads has affected not only daily commutes but also access to essential facilities, including the road leading to the office of the Oti Regional Minister, which remains inaccessible despite its significance in delivering services to the local population.
Addressing these concerns, Oti Regional Minister Joshua Makubu has empathized with the people of Dambai and acknowledged the dismal condition of the roads in the regional capital. He confirmed ongoing dialogues with the feeder roads department and highlighted efforts to re-engage the contractor, who had withdrawn from the project. The collaborative initiatives, involving the Minister for Roads and Highways and other stakeholders, aim to encourage the contractor’s return to the site and ensure the completion of the project. This concerted endeavor is intended to alleviate the challenges faced by the community and reinstate smoother movement within the region.
