As Ghana gears up for the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) elective congress in March, Richard Kofi Akpokavie Esq. has announced his candidacy for the presidency.

With a wealth of experience in sports administration, a proven track record of leadership, and an unwavering commitment to Ghana’s sports sector, Akpokavie is poised to lead the GOC into a new era of innovation, inclusivity, and international excellence.

Akpokavie’s vision for the GOC is built around five key pillars;

Empowering Athletes: Providing resources, infrastructure, and opportunities to nurture talent and ensure Ghanaian athletes compete confidently on the global stage.

Transparency and Accountability: Promoting ethical governance and ensuring efficient use of resources for the benefit of athletes, associations, and stakeholders.

Active Listening and Engagement: Focusing on the concerns and needs of national federations, responding thoughtfully to build trust and rapport.

Grassroots and Capacity Development: Establishing a National Olympic Games program to build Federations/Associations capacity, including funding, identifying, and developing young talent across all regions of Ghana.

National Partnerships: Strengthening relationships with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Authority, and corporate companies, to secure more funding, training, and exposure.

Akpokavie’s extensive experience in sports administration makes him an ideal candidate for the GOC presidency.

He has served in key administrative roles within Ghana’s sports associations, introducing innovative solutions to long-standing challenges. Akpokavie has also advocated for athlete welfare, including improved training facilities and access to international competitions.

As Akpokavie embarks on his campaign, his slogan “Unity, Excellence, Accountability, Progress” reflects his belief that the GOC’s success lies in fostering a collaborative, transparent, and athlete-focused organization.

With the GOC elective congress just around the corner, Akpokavie is calling on all stakeholders to join him on this transformative journey.
