Committee Reports No Proof of Alleged Shoulder Dislocation, Nurse Pursues GH¢7 Million Lawsuit Despite Findings

The committee set up by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to investigate the alleged assault on a nurse at Ridge Hospital has found no medical evidence to support claims of a dislocated shoulder.

In its report presented on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the committee said that Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a rotation nurse at the hospital, only reported her injuries a day after the incident on August 18. Medical records reviewed showed no signs of a fracture in her left wrist or a dislocation in her right shoulder.

The committee, however, confirmed that Bortei was treated, given pain relief, recommended bed rest, and placed under psychological support. These findings contradict her earlier claims of a shoulder dislocation during the alleged assault.

The case gained public attention after a viral video captured relatives of a patient clashing with staff at the hospital’s emergency department. The incident sparked widespread debate about the safety of health workers, leading Minister Akandoh to establish the investigative committee.

Meanwhile, Bortei has filed a civil lawsuit against social media personality Ralph Saint Williams, popularly known as Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian. She is seeking GH¢7 million in damages for alleged physical assault and defamation linked to the case.
