The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) is making history with the launch of its first-ever E-Sports Rugby League Tournament, bringing together the passion of rugby league and the excitement of competitive gaming.

Scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the E-Sports Academy in Accra, the groundbreaking tournament will see five rugby league clubs—UG Titans, Panthers, Tigers, Bulls, and Skolars—compete in a high-stakes virtual showdown.

Each team comprises three players, including a mandatory female participant, emphasizing RLFG’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation in the sport.

A New Era for Rugby League in Ghana
“We are excited to introduce this historic event, which not only showcases the competitive spirit of our clubs but also highlights our commitment to use esports to educate and whip up the interest in the physical game ,” said Riddick Alibah, Greater Accra Regional Manager. “E-Sports is a global phenomenon, and by integrating it into our rugby league structure, we are creating new ways for fans to experience the game.”

Kwesi Hayford, President of the E-sports Association of Ghana, also expressed his support for the event: “This partnership between RLFG and the E-sports Association marks a significant step forward for both the e-sports and traditional sports communities. We’re thrilled to be a part of this groundbreaking tournament, and we look forward to seeing the future stars of rugby league in the virtual arena!”

Tournament Format & Engagement
The tournament will be played in a 2 round league format, with clubs battling for the title of Ghana’s first-ever Rugby League E-Sports Champion.
