Togolese Robbery Suspect Referred For Mental Evaluation After Eating His Feces

Adinda Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, a Togolese national accused of multiple high-profile robberies in Accra’s East Legon, has been referred to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital for a mental evaluation due to disturbing behavior, including coprophagy, as reported during his court appearance on May 20, 2025. The self-styled businessman was extradited from Togo to Ghana on May 14, 2024, following his arrest by Interpol Togo on January 30, 2025.

Moudjibou allegedly robbed a medical doctor on April 13, 2024, stealing $200,000 in cash, gold jewelry worth GH¢43,000, and a registered pistol. After fleeing to Togo, he was tracked via CCTV evidence and an Interpol Red Notice. In custody, he admitted to orchestrating robberies with an accomplice, Mohammed Djando, who remains at large, and motor rider Marzuk Alidu, arrested in September 2024.

During court proceedings, prosecutor ASP Richard Amoah noted Moudjibou’s erratic behavior, including consuming his own feces, raising concerns about his mental stability. The prosecution requested a psychiatric assessment to determine if this is a tactic or a genuine condition. Presiding Judge Basilia Adjei-Tawiah ordered Moudjibou’s remand to the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) and evaluation at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The case, adjourned to May 20, 2025. The regional cooperation under the 2003 West African Police Chiefs Agreement, with the Ghana Police and Interpol, is being praised for its collaboration. Public sentiment questions Moudjibou’s mental state, while critics urge thorough investigations to ensure justice for victims in affluent Accra neighborhoods like East Legon and Cantonments.
