The Fire Hit Close to His Rockz Waakye Branch
The fire at the Accra Tourist Information Centre in Cantonments, which erupted around 1:00 a.m. on August 4, 2025, affected Rockz Waakye, a popular eatery owned by Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone. The blaze, suspected to have started in the kitchen area, consumed the centre’s first floor, including the food joint’s facilities.
Reggie Rockstone expressed gratitude on Instagram, stating, “Praises due you the Most High Yah! We thank you for all and your protection over your children.” In a video, he described the damage as “severe” but emphasised no lives were lost, thanking supporters and the Fire Service for their swift response.
The Ghana National Fire Service is investigating the fire’s cause, with preliminary reports pointing to a possible kitchen-related incident. The blaze follows a separate fire at Madina Ritz Junction on August 3, which destroyed over 50 structures, highlighting growing concerns about urban fire risks in Accra.
Rockstone assured patrons that Rockz Waakye, a cultural staple serving waakye in Cantonments, will recover, though no reopening timeline was provided. The incident disrupts operations at the centre, a key tourism hub, as authorities assess damages and plan restoration.
