Understanding Rwanda’s Diplomatic Rift with Belgium
Rwanda has announced the expulsion of Belgian diplomats, giving them 48 hours to leave the country, amidst escalating tensions between Kigali and Brussels. Rwanda’s foreign ministry accused Belgium of ongoing interference, alleging a pattern of actions undermining Rwanda, particularly concerning the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where Belgium’s historical involvement has fueled contention.
Belgium recently took measures against Rwanda, freezing aid and suspending trade agreements in response to Kigali’s perceived aggression in the DRC.
