A year long peace initiative by Afra Media Consult with support from S.O Herbal has successfully been launched in Accra.
Focused on promoting Peace, Fairness and Justice, the event attracted distinguished political enthusiasts, peace ambassadors including traditional dignitaries across the country.
The campaign is targeted at educating Africa and Ghanaians on the need to promote and protect the existing peace within the country as the elections draw nigh.
Speaking at the event, the chairperson for the occasion and former CEO of the University of Ghana Medical Center, Dr. Darius Kofi Osei called for the continuous promotion and education of peace across all platforms.
He commended the organizers for the initiative, adding that, the right support would be needed to implement such peace promoting projects.
“We all need peace and unity, so this is a right initiative by Afra Media Consult. The elections is here, so starting early is a step in the right direction. Let’s all support this initiative and push it forward, enjoying peace is a great asset, so let’s come together for this,” he said.
He also advocated for collaborations between security agencies and stakeholders ahead of the 2024 December polls.
“Let’s all rally behind the promotion of peace, I want to urge the various agencies under the national security system to come onboard and support this initiative.” He stated.
The Global Coordinator at the Global Peace African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes in Durban, South Africa, Mr. Kobla Asamani reiterated the need of protecting and educating the youth ahead of elections.
He explained that, the youth play major roles in the development of a country.
“The youth are the key stakeholders in a country who is seeking to develop. They are very essential and should be protected. Educating them about peace and not to indulge in violence related activities is very important.
“They are also vulnerable, relevant and highly destructive. So we need to be extra vigilant with the youth during and after the elections. They are always at the forefront.” He said.
According to him, the Global Peace African Center would focus on the importance of peace advocacy by collaborating with Afra Media Consult for effective promotion.
“As an advocate myself, I am very happy to say that, we are going to support this campaign to ensure that it achieve its fullest objective and targets.” The Global Coordinator for Peace, Mr. Kobla Asamani disclosed.
Traditional leaders, Naa Oyetsui Marmon Manye (I) of Odorkor official Town, Nyamekye manye and Mamaga Agbetsivutor, development Queen mother of Afife also pledged to support the initiative by extending to their various communities the importance of peace.
They mentioned that, they would collaborate with government to ensure the youth are well educated and equipped with the necessary tools of empowerment and development.
On his part, the CEO of AFRA Media Consult, Afra Harrison Ofosu, disclosed that activities have strategically been outlined to ensure successful implementation prior to the December elections.
“As part of the all-inclusive peace campaign, we would have a courtesy call on the various political parties, a health screening exercise across the country, corporate games to promote peace among entities, visitation to some churches and mosques within the country.
“We would also have some market centers activations, media tour on promoting peace, visitation to prisons and orphanages and finally climax the peace campaign with a major walk before the elections.” He stated.
